Fly Fishing in the Eastern Cape of South Africa
Join me, Shawn, as I lead group trips to South Africa for a fly-fishing destination trip you will never forget. After taking a hunting trip to the Eastern Cape providence of South Africa in 2021, I found out there were trout and fly-fishing opportunities to be had while on my hunting trips. After receiving a birthday wish one year on Facebook from a fly-fishing guide in South Africa, I reached out to him. I found out he was only an hour away from the hunting lodge where we stay. In the fall of 2024, I made plans with my hunting outfitter, Dubula Hunting Safaris to head back over and explore what fishing options they offered and to also meet up with fly fishing guide, Alan Hobson of Wild Fly Fishing in the Karoo.
I am planning to do group trips every year starting in the spring 2026 with two different offerings. I will be leading two groups with two different focuses. Each trip will be 8-10 days plus travel time. The first trip will be a Cast and Blast trip based at Dubula Hunting Safaris with a focus on hunting while breaking up your hunting days with multiple fly-fishing options. The second trip will be a fly-fishing only option with Alan Hobson based out of his facilities at the Angler and Antelope. Both trips will be limited on size due to accommodations. These trips are also very family friendly and will make a great father/son or husband/wife trip.

Option 1 - Cast and Blast:
The Cast and Blast trip takes place near the town of Adelaide at Dubula Hunting Safaris. With nearly 30 species of animals to hunt, Dubula is a hunter's paradise. Doing your hunt, you will also get to spend two days fly-fishing the Karoo region with Alan Hobson. While on this trip, you can also schedule to spend some time on the coast fishing for shark and other surf fish, head up into the mountain lakes for trout, or relax one evening by the local dam catching barbel (catfish).
Dubula Hunting Safaris offers a number of activities other than hunting for those who would like to just enjoy the outdoors and experience nature. Take in the surroundings or relax on the sun decks around the pool or be pampered at our Spa. Activities include:
The cost for this trip will vary depending on the animals you choose to hunt. A package price will be worked up based on your hunting and fishing preferences. Observers may join you for an added daily rate fee. The price quoted also includes all meals, lodging, local beverages, and transportation once you arrive at the airport in South Africa. On top of the package price, you will be responsible for the cost of airfare, gratuities for staff, and taxidermy care of your animals after the hunt. You will leave this trip feeling like part of the Dubula family.
